Welcome!
This is your website.
Welcome to the DHS Local 200 website. This page is being put in place for members to share information, actions, success stories, and sometimes what we need help with as well.
If you have news or photos to share, or ideas on how this page could be done better, please let us know. If it's legal, builds union, and we can figure out how to do what you want, we'll be happy to oblige.
We have also begun work on a Google group for Local 200, which we envision as more of a resource for stewards and activists. Membership in the Google group, which will likely include more controversial content than this page, is by invitation only. If you'd like to be invited to join the group, please ask your steward, an officer, or an organizer to help you out.
Local 200 at General Council
DHS Local 200 was well represented at the 2008 General Council, held in Eugene again this year. General Council is where we decide how SEIU 503 will conduct its business in the future. Your delegates were elected to represent you, and to help all of SEIU 503 OPEU find the best path to "Dream Big and Build Power."
There have been some changes made to how we in SEIU will work together in coming years: Councils were created for our brothers and sisters in Home Care and Nursing Homes, to provide them a structure for meeting to discuss how to work together on common causes. Reimbursement for the cost of meals while traveling on union business went up. We voted to continue our opposition to WalMart's ongoing practice of paying their employees so little that many of them rely on OHP and other benefits, instead of having their employer provide them.
These changes and others will be published soon.
