Officers and Director Meet With Good Results
At our first meeting with DHS Director Bruce Goldberg, DHS local officers raised concerns about representation at the new Eastern Oregon facility.
At long last we have resolved representation issues. At a meeting with Eva Corbin, DAS, and Louise Melton-Breen, DHS HR, we reached agreement that our union will be recognized at the exclusive representative for the workers in the classifications currently in our unit. We will have a Letter of Agreement documenting this in the near future – Eva is working on a draft.
We will need to enter into transition bargaining. The bargaining will determine the baseline contract provisions. We have targeted October for that bargaining. Both the state and union need to determine our bargaining teams. These workers will then roll directly into the Institutions coalition for successor bargaining.
